You learn something new…
- MGMT has started their third album.
- Andrew didn’t lose his virginity until the end of his sophomore year of college, when he was probably 20.
- He reads Playboy.
- He’s had the opportunity to survey certain…parts of English girls.
- He likes Neil Young for his simplicity, which is interesting coming from the guy who cowrote Oracular Spectacular, and also his lyrics. Andrew’s favorite album is Tonight’s the Night.
- He saves pretty dryer lint.
- And apparently does weird things in his sleep, especially when he’s sharing pull-out couches with Ben.
- Ben knows a lot of technical music stuff that I just do not understand. Not surprising.

In the inaugural issue of Intercourse Magazine, Gibby Haynes, frontman of the legendary Butthole Surfers, shoots the breeze with Andrew VanWyngarden and Benjamin Goldwasser of MGMT.
Gibby: Jesus, so this is the first day of your new record, huh? Do you have any kind of concept in mind? It’s going to be songs, right? Are you ready for a concept record?
Andrew: No…
Gibby: I mean, I’m not implying you’re going to do a country western record. How many songs you got?
Andrew: I have 5. They’re like, based on REM.
Gibby: You’re trying to emulate REM. Man, we lived in Athens for a while, and the guy at the barbecue stand that everyone went to was like, ‘I know you. You’re that - You’re that butthole man! You’re trying to emulate REM!’ [everyone laughs]
